Today is a gift. Inhale the beauty and exhale any pain.
I’ve launched the most important campaign of my lifetime to empower ALL California parents to gain a more efficient and accessible student mask exemption and help their children BREATHE FREE. The campaign was inspired by a sweet boy that lost his mom almost a year ago and has met incredible life challenges.
He does not wish to wear a mask or any face covering and just wants to feel normal again. According to CDPH guidelines, he should be exempt from all face coverings with his condition(s).
He is turning 12 today.
I promised him I would advocate for him and help him BREATHE FREE at school for his birthday present. I also promised his amazing mom, who was my dear friend, that I would look after him while she was in Heaven.
Along this journey, I have met other parents who are crying desperately for help to get their child a valid medical and/or mental health mask exemption honored. They have been unable to gain a Doctor’s note and/or reasonable cooperation from school leaders.
An autistic child in Lake Forest.
A 3yr old in Los Angeles with growth delays.
Adopted twins from Haiti with social anxiety and learning disabilities.
A boy who is a carrier of sickle cell trait (SCT). Reduction of oxygen puts him at risks associated with SCT.
Child with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) from a drowning incident. The mask subconsciously reminds her of being suffocated under water.
And there are many other stories of children with new mental health conditions including anxiety, depression and even suicidal ideation.
What Can Parents Do to Protect their Children?
If you are a parent that wishes to submit a student mask exemption via parent declaration form, please click on Parent Forms at CuraWaves.com. Then, if your Doctor refuses to write a mask exemption (majority of CA Doctor’s will not write mask exemption letters at this time), bring in copies of your medical records or statement from the Doctor of your child’s diagnosis and attach with your letter to your school admin and cc: your local school district representative or private school board president.
What Does Science and Data Show About Children and Masks?
Many notable physicians and healthcare providers agree that the science clearly shows that the statistical risks of COVID-19 to children does not outweigh the general medical and/or mental health harms of face masks and/or face shields.
Face coverings cause direct harm by increasing anxiety, social anxiety, depression, learning disorders, and suicidal ideation. The harm caused may be long lasting. An improperly worn mask may even increase risk of infection. Based upon CDC data, children recover well from COVID-19 and statistically have zero percent chance of death. Children recover from COVID-19 with similar numbers as the seasonal flu.
Medical evidence also shows that asymptomatic children do not spread COVID-19. Data also shows that over 90% of all teachers in schools are vaccinated against COVID-19 and are not at risk for serious illness.
Any underlying conditions, such as, but not limited to the following, can cause greater harm to students wearing a face mask and/or face shield:
Asthma, Anxiety, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorders, Cerebral Palsy, Conduct Disorder, Depression, Developmental Disabilities, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders, Fragile X Syndrome, Hearing Loss, Hemophilia, Intellectual Disability, Language Disorders, Learning Disorders, Muscular Dystrophy, Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Sickle Cell Disease, Spina Bifida, Tourette Syndrome, and/or Vision Loss.
The Time is NOW!
With a mountain of scientific literature, legal precedent and empirical evidence from other schools that support mask optional policies throughout the United States, it’s time for California to take bigger steps towards moving our schools towards normalcy and let children BREATHE FREE. Especially to protect our children’s mental health and wellness!

Please note: This is uncharted territory for California parents and therefore, we do not and can not guarantee any results. Please keep moving forward and making your demands heard. This process is best between the adults as we work to resolve the injustices in a timely and respectful manner. We will continue to update documents as we learn more information throughout the BREATHE FREE campaign.
